— ABOUT —

A LITTLE STORY TIME

A historical icon. A small town parade. A tree in solitude. These simple and often esoteric things are the inspirations behind my artwork. The camera has been my companion these twenty-five years. Although I am a multimedia designer by trade, I have explored the almost indomitable realm of public art and exhibition since 2007. This journey began with traditional photography and abstract graphic art as two completely separate art forms. Not surprisingly, the two expressions subtly merged and became my favorite compilation of pieces called “Silhouettes.”

The process begins with a photograph. I shoot the unicyclist, for example, and digitally cut out every detail of the subject. I then add color and other pleasing components until I feel the image is finished. For The Unicyclist, I had previously photographed a litany of paint splotches and love how the large splotch on the left resembles a turtle, while the splotch on the right resembles a giraffe. It’s colorful and fun; full of innocence and memory. My aim is for each vignette to be engaging and relatable.

I complete each piece by mounting the photographic print onto foam core board and placing it in a personally hand-crafted frame made of naturally weathered wood. To me, this particular style of frame brings the art full-circle as a similitude of life. The crude or uninhibited subjects are enhanced and polished, drawing attention to an ever increasing potential for admiration, all the while being bound in a physical wooden cage of sorts, reminding me that our imperfections are part of the natural beauty that makes us complete.
